  • Visual Thinking:  The City of Mesquite, Texas, Development Review Process:  Conbrio recently finished a process improvement project culminating in creating the map above to explain the city’s new eight-step process for obtaining all the approvals necessary to build a commercial building.  The project grew from the city’s need better understand its current permitting process, respond to criticism outside City Hall about the current process, reduce friction among city departments involved in administering the process and to streamline the process to eliminate extra steps.  The Mayor and members of the City Council praised City Manager Ted Baron and his staff for their work. The city staff put the map on its website at www.cityofmesquite.com

  • Trends:  How Americans work. Where Americans liveThe BusinessWeek August 20 issue explores the future of work in its cover story.  www.businessweek.com. The New York Times on August 13 in a story with the headline “Off to Resorts and Carrying Their Careers” highlights growth in the nation’s resort areas. www.nytimes.com. Where people live and how they work have enormous implications for businesses and governments as well as continued growth in the nation’s largest metro areas.

  • Confluence of Process and Technology Bring Two Companies Closer TogetherThat’s the title of an article Conbrio principal Bill Bancroft authored for the March, 2006 issue of  Society of Learning’s Journal, The Systems Thinker. It’s still on point today.

Illiterate in the 21st Century. The combination of words, images, sounds and the computer are or will be changing the way organizations communicate – sellers to customers, trainers to trainees, team members to team members. It’s more than the sum of the parts story; a new syntax is emerging. And as a result, for example, new ways to hold conference calls, develop products, sell services. All featured in Newsletter #7.

  • Microfinance in Honduras. Look what a difference a few dollars can make! With our program up and running, others ask, how do we do it? How do we start our program? My perspective on dos and don’ts…and descriptions of some who are being helped with small loans. Together with colleagues, we looked for the right partner for 17 months. We checked out a dozen different programs, traveling to Honduras twice to interview the heads of various agencies. It’s easy to give money to a large microfinance organization in the States and let them direct it as they see fit to different parts of the world. We wanted to make sure it worked in a specific community in a specific country.

  • American Red Cross Dallas Chapter Plans for Another Katrina.The senior staff at the Red Cross in Dallas spent two days in 2006 reviewing the good and the bad about their response to Huricanes Katrina and Rita. CBS Dallas-Fort Worth affiliate KTVT Channel 11 ran a report on the effort, including video showing Conbrio Principal Bill Bancroft leading the meeting. (Link To Video)
